Wondering where the town of Crested Butte, Colorado got its name? It's named after the mountain that looms over it, which in turn is named for the distinctive shape it cuts against the sky. Those Gothic rock buttresses gave their name to another mountain not far off, but this one is pretty well named for its crest.

I've never skied there, funnily enough. I always go during the summer. Hard to hike or bike in eight feet of snow.
